When I started studying anatomy at school I remember thinking “wow…͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏
When I started studying anatomy at school I remember thinking “wow, everything has a purpose, this has to be by design”.
I started questioning the design of the human body: “Why is some people’s skin brighter than others?”; “Why do people from northern Europe tend to have blue eyes?”; “Why do some of us have straight hair and others curly?”.
As you can imagine, I was quite an annoying kid.
This curiosity and questioning never left me. To the point of considering working as a pathologist. Until I watched a few episodes of CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) and it seemed too much to handle.
All this to say that, throughout my whole life, I have been led to observe and question the design of the human body and all things around me. And one of them was Nature.
Nature has always been very fascinating to me. It seems that the whole system follows a pattern in which every plant, animal, flower and element is in constant communication, even if it is not so obvious to our eyes.
Being an animal myself, I started to also question how Nature communicates with me outside of my own awareness.
Through my extensive studies on the Nervous System and the Human System, I realised that we are, in fact, in constant communication with our surroundings and vice versa.
Over the last month in particular I have had the opportunity to further refine my relationship with Nature and feel that communication in my own body.

I left Germany and moved to Portugal, after being 7 years away.
I am blessed enough to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the country - the Algarve. The best part? It is the part of Portugal where the days are sunny 320 days out of the 365 days a year.
For someone who, for the last 7 years, tended to choose cloudy and rainy countries to live in and felt depressed about it, moving here feels unreal and, quite honestly, it feels as if a dream came true. I missed the sun so much!
|
With this change of country came a multitude of changes: a change of lifestyle, a lovely partnership that ended, saying goodbye to very important people in my life and to so many familiar elements that provided me a sense of safety… so many changes!
When I moved to Algarve, I felt Nature communicating with me.

|
I naturally started waking up before sunrise and felt a pull to go outside for a walk and wake up with the sun. Starting the day outside, in connection with Nature continues to be one of the highlights of my day.

I felt and continue to feel that Nature has its magical ways of communicating with me. Through the consistency of the sun coming say hello everyday, the little bee that feeds on a flower, the occasional beautiful rainbow, the birds chirping, Nature tells me “It is ok, I am here for you”.
|
Although I was and still am in the process of grieving, I feel my capacity to deal with all the changes growing day by day. Everyday I finish my sunrise rise walk with a nice “Alhamdulillah”. What a blessing to be alive and surrounded by so many resources spread abundantly all around us! I feel so supported by all these different elements, which are actually carefully designed to help us regulate our nervous system.
I recently learned that the chirping of birds deeply regulates our body, as it is a way of signalling that there are no predators, that we are safe. How beautiful is that?
|
I would like to finish this newsletter by inviting you to be more attentive to the elements of Nature next time you leave your house. Even if you live in a city, what is there around you that helps you regulate your body, that tells you “Hey, you are safe”.
When you find them, please feel free to share them with me.
Until then, have a beautiful sunday. 🌞

Music: Here is another lovely, earthy, magical song for you! I love how good music makes us feel, even when we do not understand the language!
Series & Documentaries: In the past week I had the chance to rewatch one of my favourites documentaries of all time: HUMAN. It is a compilation of 3 parts that the filmmaker and artist Yann Arthus-Bertrand created after spending three years collecting real-life stories from 2,000 women and men in 60 countries. Yann captures deeply personal and emotional accounts of topics that unite us all; struggles with poverty, war, homophobia, and the future of our planet mixed with moments of love and happiness. It is so beautiful!
Books: Lately, I've been remembering parts of a beautiful book I read about 10 years ago. It was one of the first books I read that mentioned spirituality in a way I'd never heard before. It's so good that I still remember it after 10 years!
